Created for a Purpose

Happy New Year and welcome to our first ever blog post!

This year at Wellspring, we have created a theme to guide us through the year. Created with a purpose inspired by Ephesians 2:10: “For we are His creation, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them”.

I have worked in pediatric physical therapy for 14 years. Over the years, I have encountered so many kids and families. I get to see and share in the joy as a child sits up for the first time, takes their first steps, learns to ride a bike, learns to throw a ball, and have celebrated with them every new skill that is learned. I have seen kids and babies work so hard to achieve what many may see as a small/ insignificant skill that the rest of us take for granted each day, and do it with a smile on their face. I have seen parents grieve what their child should have been all while celebrating who their child is. And I have seen parents experience the most unimaginable loss, the loss of their child taken from them all too soon. Working in a large corporate type setting gave me so many opportunities to meet different families, to learn from other therapists, and to expand my skill set. But there was always something missing. As I watched family after family struggle with various things such as finances, finding and accepting their new normal, grief, divorce, IEP’s, etc, I realized there is so much more that the body of Christ can be doing to help and support these families. That is where the vision of Wellspring Wellness Center was birthed, from a calling to do more.

Each child that I see is so unique and special! They come with their own set of needs and challenges, but what each child needs is to be given a chance. They are longing to be given the chance to be seen as an individual. They deserve the chance to be seen for what they can do, not for what they can’t do. They deserve for their potential to be seen and to be given the supports and opportunities to live in that full potential. So many times, I have seen doctors be proven wrong over and over again by these kids. They are so much more than their diagnoses and each one has a purpose designed by God! It is our job to help them find that purpose and support them as they full fill that purpose.

Our goal for 2023 is to empower kids and families to find the purpose God has for them and support them as they walk in this purpose. We have many great events planned in 2023 designed to create a community of acceptance and friendship. We are continuing to grow and pray this will be a year of growth for Wellspring!

MEET RAY

Ray is a sweet 10 year old young man who had a traumatic brain injury at a young age. Doctors said he would never walk or talk. At the age of 3, he was adopted by a loving family who saw his potential. Today, Ray loves to walk and doesn’t sit still for very long. He is learning to speak through an AAC device (a specialized tablet) and is able to communicate his needs and wants. Ray loves the movie Moana, basketballs, and swimming! Ray was created for a purpose!

FROM THE PARENT:

Dear Parents,

It can be hard navigating through your child's diagnosis an not sure where to start. We brought our son home at 3 years old and knew we would need help and support but had no clue where to look. We have been blessed to have Beth as our PT for approximately 5 years now. She is not only an advocate for our son but our family as well. Beth has been a huge part of our village and we'll never be able to thank her enough. I know life can be hard, overwhelming, and scary at times, but please know that you are doing a GREAT job!
